Varicose and Spider Veins affect millions of men and women. Statistics show that nearly 70% of all women and 30% of all men will develop some form of venous disease during their lifetime due to insufficient blood circulation. Alaska Vein Care specialists focus on providing the latest, high quality treatment and management in venous disease. We offer safe, precise, effective and minimally invasive treatment options to treat your specific needs. Our services are performed safely in our office, by your surgeon and under local anesthesia, avoiding surgery and hospital stays. Usually, you can return to normal activity the next day.
We specialize in treating:
We are specialists in the following procedures to treat vein conditions and diseases:
Minimally invasive Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT)
Laser Treatment is a treatment alternative to surgical stripping of varicose veins in the legs. A small laser fiber is inserted, usually through a needle stick in the skin, into the damaged vein. Pulses of laser light are delivered inside the vein, which causes the vein to collapse and seal shut.
Endovenous Radiofrequency Ablation
Radio Frequency is another minimally invasive procedure that treats varicose veins and their underlying cause, venous reflux. Using the Closure system, physicians close the diseased veins by inserting a catheter into a vein and heating the vein wall using temperature-controlled RF (radio frequency) energy. Heating the vein wall causes collagen in the wall to shrink and the vein to close. After the vein is sealed shut, blood then naturally reroutes to healthy veins.
Compression Stocking
Compression stockings are traditionally used to improve circulation. According to the authors of Sclerotherapy: Treatment of Varicose and Telangiectatic Leg Veins, Roman soldiers often wrapped their legs in leather straps to improve circulation during long marches. Modern compression stockings are more sophisticated and designed to provide consistent pressure in the legs, helping blood to flow back toward the heart. Stockings usually exert more pressure near the ankles and feet, providing an extra squeeze that promotes blood flow.
Sclerotherapy
Unlike varicose veins, where cutting-edge laser therapy has become the go-to treatment, the best solution for the vast majority of spider veins is still the old-school method. These are injections known as“surface sclerotherapy.” In this case, phlebologists choose from a variety of effective injectable agents (“sclerosants”) to treat spider veins. Every patient varies in the success of a sclerotherapy session, but results are typically commensurate with your phlebologist’s experience, and his/her ability to choose the best treatment protocol based on your skin type, and the size and location of your spider veins.
Phlebectomy
Phlebectomy is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a small scalpel or needle to remove varicose veins that lie just beneath the surface of the leg.

What are Varicose Veins?
Varicose Veins are bulging, twisted veins that form when the valves within our blood vessels fail to work. They commonly occur in the legs, but can be found in other parts of the body.
What are the symptoms of Varicose Veins?
In many cases, varicose veins and spider veins (a less pronounced variation of varicose veins) are strictly a cosmetic issue. They are unsightly and can cause a lot of embarrassment at the beach, the local pool, or at the gym. However, some patients will experience sharp pain, general discomfort, and even tingling sensations. In extreme cases, varicose veins can create ulcers, or blood clots.
How can you help your vein issues at home?
There are a couple of things you can do to treat your varicose veins. Exercising regularly has been helpful for many patients. Others have had good luck with compression stockings and elevation. However, if you find that self-care measures have not been successful, you may need to consult with a laser vein specialist in Anchorage Alaska.
