What Is Venous Reflux?

Healthy veins pump blood back toward your heart. A system of valves or flaps keeps gravity from pulling that blood back toward your feet. When these valves weaken or become damaged, blood pools in the lower extremities. This condition is known as venous reflux or venous insufficiency.
