Your first visit

Devider
Your time is valuable, and so is ours. To keep things flowing smoothly on both ends, our new patient instructions include filling out our intake form and worksheet prior to your appointment. These forms supply the information that we need to create your patient account in our system, and provide valuable insight regarding the symptoms you have experienced and the treatment options you may have tried. This will also assist the physician in understanding your history and performing your examination. You may either use the interactive forms on our website or request to have them e-mailed to you before coming in.
You will also receive our policy disclosure statements, HIPAA acknowledgement, and any appropriate consent forms that are needed for your first visit. Please bring:
  • A photo ID
  • Insurance card
  • Any special offer documentation
We will make a copy of these to place in your chart, and return them to you in a timely manner.

Free vein screening

Devider

If you are scheduled for a free vein screening at Alaska Vein Care, we will perform a basic examination designed to determine if you have venous disease. We will perform a limited ultrasound scan to determine if you are a good candidate for treatment. The findings of the ultrasound exam will be discussed with you, and we will explain the basics of vein treatment and answer any questions you may have. We will give you enough information about your disease and available treatment options to enable you to make an informed decision as to whether or not you wish to pursue treatment. If we find that you are not a good candidate for EVLT, or if you decide you are not interested in pursuing treatment at this time, your screening will be completed, and there will be no charge to you!

Consultation and mapping

Devider
If, after receiving sufficient information during your free vein screening, you decide to proceed with treatment, we will attempt to perform a consultation and mapping immediately afterward if time permits. If we are running behind schedule, or have other standing appointments, we may have to schedule your consultation and mapping on a different day. In any case, please note that a consultation and mapping visit is not part of the free screen and will generate a bill, which will be presented to your insurance company. Many Alaska Vein Care patients who are serious about treating their venous disease go right to the consultation and mapping visit rather than bother with the free vein screening. You are welcome to do so as well.

Spider vein treatment

Devider
If you are seeking spider vein treatment specifically at Alaska Vein Care, your first appointment is extremely important. At this time, a licensed phlebology nurse will perform a brief screening to determine if you are likely to have underlying venous disease that contributed to the development of your spider veins. He/she will assess your history, symptoms, and the location of your spider veins. If indications of possible venous disease are present, your nurse will recommend that you see a vein specialist prior to having your spider veins treated. We welcome and encourage your questions about spider vein treatment, varicose vein treatment, or restless leg treatment, so please don't hesitate to call us in Anchorage, Juneau, Kenai, and Wasilla, AK.
